We started this walk by parking in Wells next the Sea and jumping on the ‘Coast Hopper‘ to bus to Salthouse (heading west along the coast). From the bus stop the path takes you straight out towards the sea and the Norfolk Coast Path. We headed east…

The much talked about ‘Beast from the East’ weather system was making its icy blast felt. We were so lucky that we’d decided to walk west to east (with the biting gale behind us)… other folks we passed along the way were bent, head down, into the gale!

I freely admit that I’d only taken time to sketch the route on OS Maps and hadn’t taken account of the distance, terrain or time to walk it 😮 consequently, as we walked along the coast path back towards Wells I wondered if we’d be back before dark (I do carry a brilliant LED-LENSER head and hand torches BTW just in case!).

It was a brilliant walk, a long one (23k) but the sky was blue and the sun shone warm on our backs. This part of the coast path winds through varied scenery, salt marshes, small villages and harbours, beaches and forests… I was however, very relieved to approach Wells next the Sea as the sun dipped out of sight. We entered the town along the harbourside under the light of street lamps. Needless to say we quickly got changed and headed to the pub!!

The Bowling Green Inn served us with good ale and delicious food and the Youth Hostel (a short stagger from the pub) was equally warm and inviting for our nights sleep!
