The Ghost Village of Kayakoy

The Lycian Way is a marked long-distance trail in southwestern Turkey around part of the coast of ancient Lycia.[1] It is over 500 km (310 mi) in length and stretches from Hisarönü (Ovacık), near Fethiye, to Geyikbayırı in Konyaaltı about 20 km (12 mi) from Antalya. It is waymarked with red and white stripes of the Grande Randonnee convention. It was conceived by Briton Kate Clow, who lives in Turkey.[2] It takes its name from the ancient civilization, which once ruled the area.[3]

Our walking holiday in Turkey was organised by Inntravel and it took in the amazing Severn Capes of Lycia on the south western coast.
most days we were walking through forests and mountains, along cliff tops and occasionally beaches. We saw very few people along the way but the few locals we encountered were very friendly, offering us lifts, food and refreshments.

It was hot! The trails were long so the overall feeling of achievement each day was high – especially when we reached a remote villa called ‘The Edge’ high up in the mountains with a shear drop of several hundred feet to the ocean below.  Our wonderful host provided cold beers and great home cooked food (although we didn’t share any common language). Oh and this was Catherine’s birthday 👍😊.

All in all we found this part of Turkey fascinating, beautiful and very hospitable.
