A trip to Malta and Gozo was intriguing and delightful!

Both islands are rich in historic sights, tourist attractions, beaches, bars and restaurants… what’s not to like? Malta has been invaded by almost every nation and ruled over by a variety of cultures that all leave their mark on the landscape.

Gozo really is amazing… The temples in Ä gantija, are considered the oldest, surviving, free-standing monuments in the world. They predate the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and Stonehenge in southern Britain by around 1000 years!

We started our trip near Mellieha where we stayed for a few days before travelling by the remarkable bus service to the Gozo Ferry, which is ultimately the most economic way to travel to a beautiful destination (€4.65 return!!). Gozo is amazing, what an historic and natural beauty!

Upon our return we took day trip to Valletta which was spectacular in every way, architecuture, weather, historically and of course the restaurants!

Days were generally spent walking from our base or taking advantage of the brilliant local buses to take us further afield. Another memorable outing was to the tiny island of Comino (a small island of the Maltese archipelago between the islands of Malta and Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea, measuring 3.5 square kilometres in area. Named after the cumin seed, the island has a permanent population of only two residents and is part of the municipality of Għajnsielem, in southeastern Gozo, from where one priest and one policeman commute. The island is a bird sanctuary and nature reserve.)… beautiful beaches and uncrowded hiking (once you’re away from the ‘Blue Lagoon‘!

All in all a great place to spend time with friends under a Mediterranean sun!
